Funeral Flowers

No one enjoys attending a funeral; especially that of a loved one. Flowers are one of the few ways to bring the dejected mood up, if only just a little. Funeral flowers should provide a refreshingly and soothingly aromatic smell, as well as a beautiful appearance. In this time of mortality and death, flowers represent cheerful life. Giving flowers to someone who has just lost a loved one not only shows your sympathy in ways words may not be able to express, but it also provides that person a pick-me-up.

Types of flowers that are generally considered appropriate for a funeral include roses, carnations, lilies, chrysanthemums, irises, statices and gladioli. Commonly used colors should include white (mourning), purple (admiration), blue (comfort), yellow (friendship), or the favorite color of the departed is also highly appropriate. Historically, different flowers symbolize different things as well. For instance, lilies symbolize life. Irises symbolize resurrection, statices represent remembrance and roses represent love or passion.

It doesn’t really matter what you choose, just as long as the flowers convey your feelings of deep sympathy and respect. This is a time of great sorrow. Flowers are one small way to brighten the morbid mood.
